Twitter Launches Verified Accounts
Need To Be #TwitterVerified?
Adios Imposters! Twitter is experimenting (beta testing) a new way to verify Twitter accounts. The new ‘Verified Account’ feature will be identified with this verified badge
, indicating the account is indeed authentic. (This does not mean Twitter has verified who is writing the tweets.)
According to Twitter, the goal is to prevent identity confusion and to help those who deal with impersonation or identity confusion on a regular basis establish authenticity on Twitter. This is great news for well-known individuals and organizations.
Keep in mind most accounts on Twitter (which don’t have a verification badge) are authentic and may never need to use a verified account badge.
